Linux Systems Administrator

Location: Charlottesville, VA and Ashburn, VA

Description:
6-mo Contract-to-hire

This position is intended to turn into a full-time hire at the end of a 6-mos.

Serve as a primary systems administrator for managed services offering. The candidate’s primary duties include: deploying, monitoring, installing and reconfiguring managed network devices, responding to requests, building infrastructure and further developing the data center for client’s managed services business.

The Datacenter is located in Ashburn, VA while the client office is located in Charlottesville, VA.

Cisco certification is preferred.

Technical Skills:

Linux:

- experience implementing backup/recovery, disaster recovery, patching/maintenance
- system monitoring using Nagios / Cacti
- Strong Intrusion detection systems (IDS) experience
- Ability to add additional security as needed

Programming:

- scripting strengths (PERL / PHP)
- Shell scripting
- experience deploying applications: java, rails, grails, CMS systems

Databases:

- Replication
- Failover
- Backup Strategies
- Experience in a mySQL / Oracle

DNS:
- Bind 9 (strong familiarity)

Cisco Equipment:
- Strong experience PIX, ASA, and Switches

Routing Protocols:

- BGP
- STP
- IP Routing protocols

Networking:
- Experience setting up Wireless security and wireless networks
- Knowledge of Network Topologies
- VLAN experience
- Trunking experience

Additional experience :

- familiarly with apple equipment

A good fit will be someone who is detail oriented, has the ability to remain focused and stay on task, but also to come up with creative solutions to problems. Good communication skills are essential. Ideally, this role would have client-facing components.
